Newly created Port-Group on vDS is not working

Hi,

I have 4 ESXi hosts having version 5.1. The VCenter had the same 5.1 version but the server crashed few months back and the engineer reinstalled the newer VCenter version 5.5 U2. I also have virtual Distributed Switch configured with multiple Port Groups (VLANs). The vlans are seperated with different VLAN IDs. All VMs with their respective VLAN can communicate within same VLAN as well as other VLANs.

However, I just created a new Port Group with different VLAN ID. Now the VMs within this newly created VLAN cannot communicate themselves as well as other VLANs. From the VMs ping response say " Destination Host Unreachable".

When i move the VMs to other VLAN they start working and when i move them back to this newly created VLAN they don't.

I also tried to assign VLAN ID from other VLAN to this newly created port group, VMs start working again. But the VLAN ID of this port group does not work with other Port Groups.

To me it appears that creating new VLAN ID has some issues. Although I followed the VMWare documented process.

I noticed that i have the following versions:

1. VCenter Server           : ver 5.5

2. ESXI host server         : ver 5.1

3. vDisbritued Switch      : ver 5.0

Does any one have idea if its a bug or compatibility issues. Am i missing something ?

Thanks
