What's the best way to change the management vmkernel IP address on a vDS?

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to change the IP address of the management vmkernel interface with as few steps and downtime as possible.

The interface is part of a Distributed Switch and the host is part of a cluster on vCenter server.

As for now, here is what I'm doing:

1) Migrate all the VMs off the host and put it in Maintenance Mode.

2) Remove a vmnic from the vDS and add it to the standard switch (that guarantees access to management VLAN).

3) Migrate the management kernel from the vDS to the standard switch.

4) Remove the host from the vDS switch.

5) Remove the host from the inventory.

6) Change the IP address, and make changes in the DNS in accordance.

7) Re add the host to vCenter cluster.

8) Apply a host profile with the previous configuration ( vmnics config, vmkernels, etc ).

9) Remediate the host profile.

How are you doing it?

Greetings,

Ro
